Even we beauty-obsessed crazy people wouldn’t go so far as to suggest you coordinate your makeup with the Thanksgiving meal. But since it just so happens that cranberry lipstick is one of this fall’s most gorgeous color trends, right now feels like the ideal time for us all to finally sample the slightly bluer, moodier side of the red spectrum. Here are my three favorite celebrity-inspired reasons to love cranberry lips.

1. Cranberry can be rich and glamorous and very fall-romantic, as we saw Sandra Bullock wear it recently. Wouldn’t this be a gorgeous way to surprise someone on a long-Thanksgiving-weekend date night?

2. Or, it can be playful and easy, as seen on Hilary Duff. This less-glossy and precise version is perfect for instantly perking up your face in advance of your extended-family feast (lord knows you don’t need more “you look tired” commentary from Mom). You can even just dab a little on like a stain for ultra-low-maintenance color.

3. OR, cranberry lipstick can be crazy chic and slightly edgy, like it was when Lily Collins wore it here. This version I envision for a meetup with high school friends over Thanksgiving weekend—it will demonstrate how far you’ve evolved since that embarrassing black-lipstick grunge phase they all witnessed.
